Mr. Keating is a sole practitioner whose offices are located
in Centreville, Maryland, U.S.A. His ancestors have practiced
law there for nearly 150 years. He was educated at St.
Andrews' School,
Princeton University, and the
University
of Maryland School of Law.
He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1970 and has been
continuously engaged in the private practice of law from 1971
until the present.
Mr. Keating served for three years in the United States Army,
assigned to the Intelligence Corps and working largely in
Washington, D.C. After his stint in the military, he spent
six years or so in the trust division of a large commercial
bank, working in the fields of estate planning and estate
and trust administration, and then entered the practice of law.
During his first eight years in private practice, he was a
member of a small firm in
Easton, Maryland, but has worked as
a sole practitioner in Easton and
Centreville since
1979.
He has served as chairman of the Estate and Trust Law Section of
the Maryland State Bar
Association, and has spoken to numerous lay and professional
audiences on the subject of estate planning and estate
administration. He is a Fellow of the
American College of Trust and
Estate Counsel and of the Maryland Bar Foundation.
Mr. Keating's clientele comes largely from the five counties of
Maryland's upper Eastern Shore, and is mostly composed of
well-to-do individuals and owners of closely held businesses. His
work is heavily concentrated in the areas of estate planning,
estate administration, business succession planning, business
valuation, and tax matters related thereto. He does not do any
litigation but has been engaged as an expert witness in cases
involving estate planning and estate administration.
